Princes' Islands are only 11 miles and not even an hour by ferry away from bustling Istanbul. But is a great escape from crowds of the city offering quiet and laid back atmosphere, free of cars streets and nice views over surrounding Marmara Sea from its highest points.

Over the centuries, the Princes' Islands have been home to writers, peots and a lot of monks, as well as exiled politicians, sultans and princes (hence the name). The region's well-to-do began summering on this Turkish riviera in the 19th century.

I have visited Buyukada, the biggest of the islands.
